Youth-Driven Nutrition: A Fresh Approach to Healthy Eating Guidelines

In the world of public health, it's refreshing to witness a shift towards youth empowerment and co-design. Recently, a group of young individuals in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, took matters into their own hands by crafting their own healthy eating guidelines, the 'Manaora Rangatahi Guidelines for Eating and Wellbeing'. This initiative is not just about nutrition; it's a powerful statement on the importance of involving the target audience in policy-making.

What makes this project truly remarkable is the recognition that eating guidelines are not merely educational tools but also influential policy instruments. They shape school lunch programs, advertising regulations, and health claims. The current guidelines, developed in 2012 and last updated in 2015, are due for a refresh, and who better to contribute than the very audience they aim to serve?
